Smart Roaming Sim, Cell Phone

Smart Telecom has a partnered with cell phone networks all over the world to allow you to make calls while you are outside of the Philippines using your Smart SIM. This service is called Smart Roaming. There are steps necessary to activate a SIM so that it will work when you leave the Philippines. The reason that most Filipinos abroad use this service is that all incoming text messages from the Philippines are free. This is a great way to stay connected with friends and family in the Philippines.

Activating your Smart SIM for Roaming Internationally

Both the Smart Buddy and Smart Talk N Text SIM cards are capable of being activated for roaming. Here are instructions for activating your Smart SIM for roaming.

  1. Activate Roaming Via SMS

    • Type ROAM ON / OFF and send it to 333.
  2. Activate Roaming Via SIM Connect

    • On your Cell phone, go to the Smart Menu
    • Choose SIM Connect from the menu
    • Choose Roam to activate and deactivate your international roaming service
  3. Activate Roaming Via Web Connect

    • Visit the Smart Connect website at http://smart.com.ph/connect/
    • Login your user ID (your cellphone number) and password. If you are not a member yet, you can register and sign up easily with your cellphone number.
    • Select International Roaming activation/deactivation

*Minimum Balance required to activate is P100.00
**The international text roaming allows subscribers to send and receive SMS messages and SMS VAS but disabling their voice features. Original subscriber profile shall only be restored upon feature deactivation.

Reactivating a Smart SIM for Roaming

If you use up all the load on your Smart SIM card it will be automatically deactivated for roaming. Here are instructions for reactivating your Smart SIM for roaming.

  1. Add load to your SIM to satisfy the minimum requirement of P100.
  2. Contact Smart Customer service, (632) 888-1111 or How to contact Smart customer service.
  3. Supple the customer service agent with your Smart phone number and request that it be reactivated for roaming.

Smart Prepaid Roaming Rates

The best thing about roaming with Smart is that you get all incoming text messages for free. Many Filipinos abroad have a Smart phone that they use just for receiving text messages from the Philippines. Its free when they receive a message and then they can use a service such as Chikka to reply back for free or at a very cheap rate per text.

    with all these comments it’s obvious that Smart is a disaster and the quality of their customer service is making things worse!

    we’re experiencing the same problem. my TXT MSGS ARE NOT BEING RECEIVED by my hubby in Dubai.

    no one answers even if you call that bloody hotline! i went to a Smart branch but it was useless WALA DAW ADVISE ANG PARTNER nila doon so wala naman daw sigurong problema. i asked if they could verify. no way to do so daw kasi their PARTNER in Dubai would have notified them.

    haller! SMART, DON’T YOU CONSIDER THESE UNENDING NEGATIVE COMMENTS AS PROBLEMS? ilang customers ba dapat magreklamo at maperwisyo before you SERIOUSLY LOOK INTO THE MATTER?

    i sent a complaint letter to a supposed AREA manager and SHE COULDN’T EVEN RESPOND ON TIME! yung CS nga nila when i went there was trying to CONTACT THEIR TECHNICAL DEPT pero SIRA DAW LINYA.

    susme! how do you expect them to RESOLVE THEIR CUSTOMERS’ ISYUS IF THEIR INTERNAL COMMUNICATION FACILITIES IS NOT EVEN WORKING?!

    hindi lang siguro palit ng sim ang solusyon kundi shift to GLOBE OR SOME OTHER NETWORK!!!!

    at eto pa, ang SUPPOSED GOODWILL NILA IS P100 LANG.

    doesn’t Smart realize that we had to use ETISALAT (Dubai sim) to communicate instead at naubos na load namin just trying to figure out what is wrong with his Smart sim.

    when i demanded for COMPENSATION for THE INCONVINIENCE THEY HAVE CAUSE at mga expenses namin for using the other int’l sim, they can’t be responsible daw for the other network.

    so SINO DAPAT MAG SHOULDER NG DAMAGES FOR THEIR LOUSY SYSTEM? CUSTOMER!!!!

    pls lang kung may mga taga Smart dyan BE SMART ENOUGH TO ACT AND RESOLVE YOUR BLOODY SYSTEM IN A TIMELY MANNER!!!

    tanggalin nyo na mga CS NYO DYAN KASI ANG ISASAGOT LANG NAMAN E TECHNICAL DEPT MAY ALAM. YNG TECH DEPT NYO NLANG ISALANG NYO SA MGA UPUAN BEHIND D DESK!

      hay nako nu ba yang mga yan ang lalaking kumpanya di iayos diko tuloy alam gagamitin ko mag globe na lang!kung meron lang sana sun eh di nako magpapalit ng sim!smartsana gusto ko pero kung ganyan lang din lagi wag na!!!

      kung kailan mo gamitin ok lang di nag expire ….walang wenta yang

    D2 po ako sa KSA Jubail, almost 3yrs ko nang ginagamit ung smart roaming sim ko.. pero ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng problema… 4 days nako di makareciv ng txt from my family in phils. hays… nakakarecv lang ako ng mga alerts galing sa system nila from pinas…. Saan po ba may problema sa smart roaming sim ko or sa network ng smart…. thanks..

    hello! meron po akong problema. ung roaming sim ko UNREGISTERED SIM na. pde q bng deactive uli xa? at mron din aq regular sim. pde q bang active to roaming ung regular sim na ginamit q while nsa pinas aq? d2 aq ngaun sa california. sna po ma2longan nyo aq. maraming salamat po.

    Hay grabe naman pala, pa load ako ng pa load tapos wala pang reply husband ko. Ok naman daw yung transaction sa retailer na pinaglo loadan ko. Dapat pala nabasa ko agad mga reklamo sa smart at ng di na ako nag aksaya ng pera sa kanila at grabe ha kapag nag load ako ng 60 sa husband ko isang text lang reply nya ubos na agad. Ano ba Smart, laki nyong company pero professional magnanakaw kayo ng load.Balak ko na nga padalhan na lang ng globe sim ang husband ko sa US.

    Mga bro, itong SMART fyi ay pabulok ng pabulok ang serbisyo sa ating lahat. Tama ung sabi ng Bhel na pagka load mo ay sinisipsip na ng SMART ung ibang load. Professional na magnanakaw talaga. Dapat siguro sunugin ng mga NPA mga Office nila kasi naman bad service sila eh nagbabayad naman tayo ng tama. Puro Technical error daw… Bakit di mga talagang marunong and nasa front desk nila at hindi ung mga pa beauty na wala namang alam…. nay naku…mga “intelligent stupid”. GLOBE NALANG TAYO…..

    same problem with me and my hubby in royadh..,ilang weeks na hindi nkakareceive roaming sim nya na smart..,ano ba problema ng smart..,ayusin naman ninyo service nyo,mukhang si bagay ang smart name sa inyo pag hindi nyo nasolusyunan mga problema ng services ninyo…wake up.,.is this the service that you provide…,imbis na pagandahin nyo service nyo habang tumatagal nasisira pa lagi….

    3 weeks na kong hindi nakakatanngap ng mga message galing sa pinas,,,, hindi ko alam kung ano gagawin ko sa sim card,,, mahalaga sakin ang simcard kasi naman since 2003 ko pa sya ginagamit,,, kaya dinala ko sya ko sya dito sa saudi,,, nakikisuyo na ko sa inyo,,, paki balik lang sa ayos ang sim card ko,,, talagang mahalaga lang sakin ito…

    Dati nagpapa load ako ng halos 4,000 pesos kada buwan,akala
    ko pag uwi ko sa pinas after 2 years mapakinabangan ko ang free ext
    ko,susme ninanakaw din pala ng Smart,zero pa rin,ngayon ang
    masaklap hindi ako nakakapag send ng text sa pinas,nakaka recieved
    ako pero kong oras na mag reply ako sending failed na bakit ba? may
    load naman ako lagi,pwede ba aksyonan nyo ang problemang ito para
    naman hindi kayo mawalan ng subscriber.sayang die hard pa naman ako
    sa SMAT at kong ganito lang din aba,maghiwalay na tayo.

    we have all same problems from smart hind makarecive ng
    message sa pinas nagpapasko pa naman walang kwenta talaga ang smart
    kung kelan kailangan na kailangan dun pa nagloko……i encourage
    all ofw using roaming sim card we use globe malakas pa ang dating
    at maasikaso pa sila hindi gaya ng smart walang paki alam sa

    THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REACTIVATING YOUR ROAMING IS USELESS,
    IT IS BETTER TO ASK YOUR RELATIVES TO BUY AND SEND YOU A NEW SIM
    CARD.. TO SMART COMPANY DON’T EVEN BOTHER POSTING SUCH DECEIVING
    INSTRUCTIONS.. kahit mgload ulit at tawagan ang customer service ng
    smart, disconnected lang ang isasagot nila, meaning bumili ka na ng
    new sim, yung 100 pesos na-reload useless, napunta lang sa
    smart..

    Ang naka roaming na SMART sim card n binili ng anak sa
    NAIA-OFW lounge bago mag departure hanggang sa ngayon hindi magamit
    more than 500 pesos ang load niya ano po ang dapat gawin
    namin?

    nagkaproblema din ako re unable to receive messages sa
    roaming no. for about a week. 2 weeks na pala wala ako balance e di
    ko naman iniexpect na madedeactivate ung number ko or kung ano pa
    man anyway, may nagsabi sa akin na i-change ko daw ung operator
    setting sa phone ko ng manual. gumana naman finally ung roaming ko
    uli. try nyo lang baka effective din sa inyo na may ganito rin
    problema

      hi,naibalik naba signal mo?pwedi po bang malaman kung pweding phone sa pinas ang gamitin?panu po ba nag wowork ang roaming?andto po aq U.S,binilhan aq ng friend ko ng roaming simcard pero nung nilagay ko na sa phone ko wala naman xang signal,.thank you po..:)

    My husband roaming number cannot receive text for almost two days. I loaded it with P30 but he haven’t received it. I knew it should be reloaded by P100 but I’m afraid he might not be able to receive it.How could it be re-activated?
